Hyland Haven Recognised at the 2026 Design Matters National Building Design Awards

We recently attended our first Design Matters National Building Design Awards as a team, and it was a night to remember. We’re incredibly humbled to have received an Honourable Mention for Hyland Haven in the New Home $1–2 million category.

With just one project submitted and this being our first time entering the awards, the recognition was particularly special. To have our work acknowledged alongside so many talented building designers from across Australia is something we’re genuinely proud of.

The Story Behind Hyland Haven

Hyland Haven was a rewarding project to work on. Our clients engaged us to design a new family home that combined contemporary luxury with functional living spaces and a strong connection to outdoor entertaining areas.

They wanted a home that would make a bold architectural statement while remaining practical, comfortable and suited to the needs of modern family life.

The result brings together architectural impact and everyday liveability. The design responds to our clients brief, creating a personalised home that reflects their lifestyle and how they want to use their spaces.

Design That Goes Beyond Aesthetics

At Van Der Haus, we believe good design starts with listening. Understanding our clients, their priorities and how they want to live is just as important as how a home looks.

Every family is different, and the best designs reflect that. By taking the time to understand what matters most to our clients, we can create homes that are not only beautiful but also practical, comfortable and adaptable as life changes.

Hyland Haven is a great example of this approach, balancing a strong architectural vision with the everyday needs of family living.

A Special Milestone for Van Der Haus

Receiving an Honourable Mention at our first national awards was a proud moment for our team. We’re grateful to our wonderful clients for trusting us with their home and to everyone involved in bringing Hyland Haven to life.

It was a lovely reminder of the collaboration, care and thought that go into creating a home, and we’re excited to keep designing spaces that reflect the people who live in them.
